The ABCT Convention is designed for the Scientist/ Practitioner

The annual convention of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies welcomes individuals representing a wide variety of disciplines, specialties, and experience levels. The thread that ties this meeting together is ABCT’s mission to establish or confirm as well as disseminate the empirical basis for clinical practice.

All those involved in designing the Convention strive to offer you a good mix of both the “how to” and the “why.”

While many sessions offer both, typically symposia and panel discussions often more strongly concentrate on the “why.” The clinical roundtables, workshops, master clinician seminars, institutes, and clinical intervention seminars more strongly concentrate on the “how to.” That being said, the majority of the presenters are clinical scientists whose interests integrate an evidence-based practice approach.

Please take the time to read through and notice the large number of useful and varied experiences that are offered throughout the weekend. You may want to use the Indices – both subject and author – to guide you to events or presenters reflecting your particular interests.

First-time attendees: Come to our special convention orientation on Friday from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. or Saturday from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. Folks there will help you get the most from your ABCT experience.

The daily schedule grids give you an overview of everything offered at any particular time and where those events are located.

We understand that it can be difficult to choose which among the several competing sessions to attend. The Program Chair and Committee work diligently to select a broad range of offerings from the large number of valuable presentations that have been submitted. So we apologize if there are two or even three places you would like to be at the same time.

We hope you enjoy the Convention. We welcome your reactions and comments.
