Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Procedure

Although the effectiveness of EMDR as a treatment for PTSD is well established in the literature, there seems little awareness of that within some quarters. Instead the focus within ABCT has been on whether EMDR is a unique therapy. Our focus as a SIG has been and will continue to be to stay current as new research findings come out which bear upon this question and other questions of interest to research based clinicians. We will strive to disseminate relevant research findings through publications and convention presentations so that the current research status of EMDR may be more widely recognized throughout ABCT.

Science & Pseudoscience Review

The purpose of our SIG is to promote the scientific study of psychological problems and their treatment. In addition to promoting the training and application of scientific methodology to human problems, we scrutinize clinical services tht appear to be at odds with scientific inquiry. We gather and analyze information on both examplary and questionable developments and movements in the field. We pay particular attention to approaches that may align themselves with ABCT and either exemplify logical and empirical study, and those that appear to lack serious commitment to logical and empirical study, which is the hallmark of behavior and cognitive therapies, allied tretments, and scientific inquiry.
